Tributes to Fred Moore

Tributes from across Sussex non-league football to Hawks legend Fred Moore have continued to reach the club since his death was announced last week. Over a hundred supporters and former players have posted on the club’s Facebook page.

Paying tribute to Fred’s memory, Mathew Major, Chairman of Sussex County FA said: “It is with great sadness that I heard that Fred Moore had passed away. Like many in football, I have known Fred for many years, and experienced at first hand, his support for local football, and particularly the club he loved above all others, Whitehawk FC.”

He added, “On behalf of Sussex County Football Association, we send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Fred, and to everyone at Whitehawk Football Club. He will be fondly remembered for many years to come.”

Richard Wilson, an expert on Sussex non-league football and especially match programmes said: “My condolences to the family and club.  His like will probably not be seen again.”

RIP Fred

Fred Moore was born 25 November 1939. He was Hawks match secretary from 1986 to 2019 and match day programme editor from 2003 to 2010. For his services to Sussex football be was appointed a Vice-President of the Southern Combination Football League.
