Saunders | “We have to work hard”
After a prolonged hiatus from the Isthmian League, the Hawks return to action with a short trip along the coast to Lancing’s Culver Road on Tuesday evening.
Whitehawk head into the match unbeaten in the division from their four matches, hoping a win will send them top, whilst Lancing have picked up just the one win after falling to defeat again on Saturday.
That results leaves ‘The Lancers’ languishing above the drop zone in this early stage of the season, but manager Shaun Saunders insists it will be a stiff ask for his side:
“We’re really excited to get going again. It seems to have been a while but back to bread and butter tomorrow so we’re really excited and looking forward to it.”
“I’ve been around long enough to know there’s no easy games at this level; we have to work hard and earn the right to win games. I think the fact that they [Lancing] haven’t started greatly can sometimes be a problem because sooner or later they’re going to get a result somewhere and I just hope it’s not against us tomorrow.”
“We know going into it that we’re going to have to be on the top of our game to get a result and I’ll be reiterating that beforehand tomorrow. We take nothing for granted and we know how hard we’re going to have to work.
I know the management team there, they’ll have them organised and they know their football so it’ll be a tough one I feel.”
With regards to the recently announced additions to the squad: “They’re good players [Andrew Sesay and Kai Brown], both good attacking players and they give us more options higher up the pitch. I’m chuffed to have them on board; I think our supporters are going to be pleased to see them play.”
