Match Report: Whitehawk 0-2 Cheshunt
Match Report: Whitehawk 0-2 Cheshunt – 19th October 2024
Whitehawk FC endured another disappointing result as they fell 2-0 to Cheshunt at The Enclosed Ground. The visitors scored two scrappy goals, one just before half-time and the other in the dying moments, to secure the win, leaving Whitehawk in a challenging position in the table.
First Half
The game started evenly, with both teams struggling to create clear chances. Our first real opportunity came in the 22nd minute, when Gianluca Botti directed a looping header from the edge of the box that nearly caught the Cheshunt goalkeeper Constable off guard.
Despite some pressure from Cheshunt, keeper Will Huffer kept us in the game with key interventions, particularly during a 34th-minute scramble in the six-yard box. However, just before the break, Cheshunt took the lead with a scrappy goal in the 44th minute, as Remi Sutton capitalized on a defensive lapse, bundling the ball over the line to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at half-time.
Second Half
The Hawks came out with more intent after the break, with Botti immediately driving into the penalty area, but Cheshunt’s defence held firm. In the 60th minute, Oscar Borg came closest for Whitehawk with a long-range shot that flew just wide of the post.
Despite creating pressure and winning a late corner through Briggs in the 80th minute, we couldn’t convert the opportunities. Cheshunt sealed the result with another scrappy goal in the 90th minute, as Jack Thomas prodded the ball into an empty net after we failed to clear a goalmouth scramble. This final goal only compounded what was a poor performance overall for the Hawks.
League Standings
This defeat leaves Whitehawk in 20th place with just 10 points from 10 games, putting pressure on the team to turn things around quickly. Cheshunt, meanwhile, move up to 16th place with an important victory.
