Match Preview | Enfield Town (A)

The Hawks hit the road later today with a trip to high-flying Enfield Town in store as Shaun Saunders’ side return to league action.

Coming out on top in their FA Trophy tie against Lewes on Saturday afternoon, Whitehawk will be looking for points on the board after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat at Chatham 10 days ago.

But with games very much in hand, there is plenty of positivity still buzzing around the Hawks as they prepare for the challenge of 2nd place Enfield Town.

The Opposition

Missing out on the play-offs an agonisingly high number of times in recent years, Enfield Town handed the mic to manager Gavin MacPherson back in May as they strive for a route out of this division.

And the early signs are certainly one of promise, as his side sit in 2nd place, though hopes of an automatic promotion already seem an unlikely prospect with Hornchurch effortlessly pulling away.

The league’s second highest goalscorers, they’ve netted 16 times in their previous five league games as ‘The Towners’ find some form with the visit of Whitehawk looming ever more as the day progresses.

One to Watch | Marcus Wyllie

Winning the fight for his side’s golden boot with 14 on the campaign so far, it’s been the duo of Marcus Wyllie and Sam Youngs thus far with the pair combining for 20 league goals this season. Both are worthy of the title, yet Wyllie’s extra goal gives him the nod.

The nippy young forward signed forms at the home of Enfield Town in the summer of 2022, joining from Step 5 side Risborough Rangers. He’d only find the net four times in all competitions last season, and has evidently hit the ground running this time around.
