Whitehawk FC have become the latest football club to become Her Game Too partners.

Following promotion to the Isthmian League Premier Division last season, the Sussex non-league outfit is aiming to make big strides forward – both on and off the pitch.

Sophie Cook, Whitehawk’s Equality and Diversity Officer, said inclusivity is important to the club and their fans regularly sing ‘homophobia, racism, sexism, we say no’ on the terraces.

“Whitehawk Football Club takes pride in being a welcoming club for all, regardless of race, sexuality, identity or gender,” she explained.

“When I first became aware of Her Game Too during a visit to Bristol Rovers, I immediately saw how the campaign would enrich the experience and support for female fans at all levels of the game – and I wanted Whitehawk FC to be part of that change.

“This partnership comes at a momentous time for women in football.”

“The success of the Lionesses and increased media coverage both of the team and of female pundits is breaking down barriers.

Here at Whitehawk, we are excited that this season has seen the reformation of our women’s team and we are proud to welcome them back into the Whitehawk family.”

“As a club, we are honoured to welcome so many female fans to our games and this partnership will give them a voice and help the club to continue to be among the most inclusive and welcoming in the country.”

Jessica Gough-Cooper became Whitehawk’s Her Game Too Ambassador last season and hopes other clubs can learn from their example of promoting inclusivity at the Enclosed Ground.

She said: “Going to Whitehawk is unlike any other experience I’ve ever had watching football.

“Women and the LGBTQ+ community are immediately welcomed and celebrated, rather than overlooked & endangered – and football really is for all.

“I instantly knew that it would be the perfect partner for Her Game Too and a great example of what football culture could be.

“Through this partnership, I aim to replicate some of the great work Her Game Too has done with both professional and non-league teams and to work alongside Whitehawk to lead by example when it comes to inclusion.

“I hope to open up local football to a wider audience so people of all genders feel like they belong.”
