Saunders speaks on Javaun Splatt’s departure

In the aftermath of the news that Javaun Splatt will be making the move to National League South club Worthing, Whitehawk manager Shaun Saunders delivered an update:

“It wasn’t a surprise to me because I actually spoke to Adam Hinch about 10 days ago about the possibility of Jav going there [Worthing] to play, so I had braced myself. So for me it wasn’t breaking news yesterday – I knew sort of 10 days ago so I was prepared and accepting of the fact that Jav was very likely going to chance himself at that level.

But from my point of view, I’ve got absolutely no problems with Jav making the move. I think it’s a good move for him and I wish him all the best. I had a good chat with Jav about the move, a good chat with Adam so yeah, I think it’s an opportunity for him to showcase his skills at the level he wants to be at and I’m really pleased for him.”

And when asked about the possibility of any incomings to fill the Splatt-shaped hole, Saunders said: “I’m really, really happy with the squad that we’ve put together; goals have been shared around so, as good as Jav is, we weren’t totally dependent on him for goals. If the right player becomes available then we would certainly look at it, for sure. But it would have to be the right player, not adding for the sake of adding. I’m really pleased with the squad, but it’s my job to be actively trying to improve it. If I can I will.”
