RESULT | CHESHUNT 1 WHITEHAWK 4

The Hawks moved out of the relegation zone as they recorded their best away result of the season against Cheshunt. Two late goals gave the scoreline a convincing look in a match in which the Hawks could have been out of sight of by half time.

Hawks aimed to carry on where they left off in the final phase of the game at Carshalton on Monday night, with Harry Bridle, Rob O’Toole and Charlie Lambert spearheading the attack – and they could have been a goal up in the first five minutes as Bridle and then Manny Mensah both went close. Lambert had a shot saved at point blank range and Bridle was denied one-on-one with the Cheshunt keeper Constable, before he set up Lambert for the opening goal on 23 minutes. Six minutes later it was 2-0 after Lambert closed down Constable midway inside the Cheshunt half, robbing him of the ball and then having a clear run through on goal. O’Toole’s aerial power and Bridle’s pace running behind the home defence continued to cause problems and the Gillingham loanee was again denied one-on-one with the keeper before the break.

Cheshunt posed a threat from long throws and corners and it was no real surprise when they reduced the deficit on the hour with a powerful Da Silva header from a left wing corner. Despite conceding, Hawks didn’t sit back and they continued to look dangerous after Calum Barlow had replaced the injured Lambert. Nevertheless, the result was in the balance until Josh Nandhra, who had replaced Bridle with ten minutes left, struck in the 89th minute. Andrew Briggs swung in a free kick which Nandhra met with a header that forced Constable into an acrobatic save, before he forced the rebound home from close range.

In the ten minutes of added time, Cheshunt’s defender Darion Furlong was sent off for an elbow on Barlow and Kai Jennings scored with a low shot from the edge of the box to put the icing on the cake for the Hawks.
