Canvey Island 2-1 Whitehawk: Last-Minute Defeat for the Hawks

Whitehawk’s trip to the Steves Taxis Stadium ended in disappointment as a 90th-minute goal handed Canvey Island a narrow 2-1 victory. Despite a promising start and periods of dominance, the Hawks fell just short in their efforts to claim points on the road.

Bright Start for the Hawks

Kai Jennings found himself in space after a well-worked move and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the visitors a deserved advantage. Jennings was at the heart of Whitehawk’s attacking play, nearly doubling the lead moments later when his fierce shot struck the crossbar.

However, Canvey Island soon found a way back. In the 26th minute, a fast counter-attack saw Jaxon Brown brought down in the area, leading to a penalty. While Will Huffer produced an excellent save to deny the initial effort, the rebound fell kindly for Brown, who made no mistake from close range to level the match.

Second-Half Struggles

The second half saw Whitehawk continue to press, with Jennings and Moe Shubbar creating chances. Huffer was called upon again, making crucial stops to keep the game tied. However, as the clock ticked toward full-time, Canvey began to gain momentum.

In the 90th minute, the Hawks’ resistance was finally broken. A pinpoint cross from Brown found Bradley Sach in the box, and his header ricocheted in off the post, sealing a dramatic victory for the home side.

The result sees Whitehawk remain in 20th position, with plenty of work ahead to climb the Isthmian Premier table. Despite the loss, there were positives to take, particularly in the team’s attacking play and the continued strong performances from Jennings.
