‘The Big Virtual Match’ Hawks v Guernsey, Sat 28 March

WHITEHAWK AND GUERNSEY FOOTBALL CLUBS JOIN TOGETHER TO CREATE ‘THE BIG VIRTUAL MATCH’ ON TWITTER, TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE WHITEHAWK FOODBANK AND GUERNSEY MIND CHARITIES

SATURDAY MARCH 28, 2:30PM, MATCH AT 3PM

@HAWKSFCOFFICIAL @GUERNSEYFC AND @HAWKSULTRAS

Whitehawk and Guernsey were due to play each other in a Bet Victor Isthmian league South East match on Saturday, March 28 – Whitehawk’s annual Community Day. Events around the globe have taken a huge development since, so the two clubs decided to play a virtual game on social media and raise some much needed funds for two amazing charities at this very difficult time.

A virtual game is played on-line and reported live on social media. For anyone following the game, goals and incidents, as well as pre-match and after-game interviews, will be the same as a real match.

The Whitehawk Foodbank is struggling to provide individuals and families with the basics. With many low/no income families within the Whitehawk area struggling to keep going, providing the bare minimum during lockdown is proving to be very difficult.

The Guernsey Mind Charity has been working with Guernsey Football Club for a while. Right now their role is pivotal, as they reach out to help huge numbers of people on the island that are dealing with the pressures of lockdown and uncertainty.

Football has always been there for communities, to support and entertain generations. Now is the time for football to give back, and help those that support the beautiful game.

We have set up a JustGiving page, https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/whitehawk-ultras and both clubs hope that they can keep football fans entertained from 2:30pm on Saturday

Follow the action as it’s played out on Twitter, @hawksfcofficial and @GuernseyFC. There’ll be updates on the Whitehawk Instagram channel: whitehawkfc and on Facebook, @whitehawkfootballclub.  The Virtual Referee for the virtual game is Daniel D’Urso, son of former Premier League Referee Andy.

Please spread the word, and let’s help two massively worthwhile causes. Anything that fans want to post, as we go through 90 minutes of this virtual classic, can be sent to @hawksfcofficial with the hashtag #wearenonleague

Hawks Chairman Andy Schofield said:

“The idea came from one of our Hawk’s Ultras. Our fans have a song ‘Let’s Pretend We Scored a Goal’, so why not ‘Let’s Pretend We Played a Game’? He also suggested donating his £10 match entry to the club.

The whole world has changed dramatically since then, so we thought we’d try to raise some funds for those that need it more. As we were due to play Guernsey we approached them to see if they liked the idea of putting together a virtual match and they responded really positively.

I have to say a huge thank you to Guernsey Chairman Mark Le Tissier, Nic Legg as well as the players, staff and fans of Guernsey Football Club for helping to put this together. And also a special mention for the magnificent Whitehawk Ultras, who wanted to do something to help their local community.”

Guernsey FC Communications Director Nic Legg said:

“We were really pleased to be involved and hope that both sets of fans will enjoy the unique match day experience.

“Many people will be finding life without football, and the companionship that comes with it difficult. I hope that we can raise some money for our partner charity Guernsey Mind who will play such an important role in supporting people to improve their mental health during this unprecedented time”

Get your pre-match gear on, send us a pic with #wearenonleague and we’ll say hello

Don’t forget to let everyone know and let’s spend Saturday afternoon like we used to… following the footie!
