Match Preview | Cheshunt (A)
It’s been a testing few weeks for the Hawks who journey to the very tip of the M25 on Saturday for a first ever meeting with Cheshunt looking to bounce back from Tuesday’s disappointing defeat.
Following the zenith of beating Horsham and Margate to start the new year, a 5-1 defeat at Wingate & Finchley combined with an exit from the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday as Bognor Regis Town claimed a convincing 3-0 victory.
It’s back to the drawing board for manager Shaun Saunders as he will be hoping his defence tightens up and his attack is firing against a side who have had little trouble finding the net of late, but also plenty of practice at picking the ball out of it, too.
Team News
Dominic Johnson-Fisher has joined Truro City and so will not be a part of Saunders’ squad tomorrow, whilst we await to see how Joel Daly fares following an early injury in Tuesday’s Senior Cup defeat.
Rob O’Toole and Charlie Harris will be searching for starts after missing Tuesday’s match due to being cup-tied as the Hawks look to snap out of this recent run of form.
The Opposition
You look at their team, their recent history and their recent results and see a side underperforming as they fight to stay in the division having just come down from National League South.
Three points adrift of safety but with plenty of games in hand, there is plenty of time for Craig Edwards’ side to escape the drop zone. Just look at those recent weeks: three consecutive 3-2 defeats in the league, with luck surely to change soon.
One to Watch | Nnamdi Nwachuku
Cheshunt’s leading goalscorer this season with eight in all competitions, Nwachuku has been the best of an underperforming attack that is slowly starting to see signs of improvement.
Recording a hat-trick earlier on in the campaign in his side’s 3-1 victory over Bognor Regis Town, the 29-year-old joined ‘The Ambers’ from Braintree Town in the summer, and is a product of Colchester United’s Academy.
He’s played for a host of clubs in his football career, but will be hoping to find a home in Cheshunt after a number of recent years spent moving from club to club in search of consistency. He might just have found it.
