East Grinstead Town
Whitehawk 1-0 East Grinstead Town
Whitehawk defeated bottom side East Grinstead Town 1-0 at The TerraPura Ground in what was a scrappy affair.
The Hawks had the first chance of the game after 8 minutes after Lucas Rodrigues went on a long run after picking the ball up in his own half before cutting inside to find Henry Muggeridge who saw his shot go narrowly side. The half went on devoid of any chances with effectively no real chances created by either side, other than a couple of shots going well over the bar and of the ground. The Hawks came up with a credible shot 4 minutes from the half after Rodrigues went on a mazy run to just inside the penalty area, but Drew Cooney was able to make a good block to deny the winger. Only a minute later Whitehawk should have surely taken the lead after a Charles Banya cross from the left was punched clear by Wasps keeper Ben Dudzinski but only as far as Ahmed Abdulla who fired wide of the goal.
It took 22 minutes to get the first chance in the second half which came from a long throw by Marvin Hamilton into the box which was met by the head of Duane Ofori-Acheampong, who forced a good stop from Wasps keeper Dudzinski. The breakthrough finally came for the Hawks 12 minutes from time after a sensational effort from Lucas Rodrigues smashed the bar and bounced clear with the ball then falling back to the winger who crossed into Ahmed Abdulla who smashed home from 6 yards out for a 1-0 Hawks lead. With four minutes to go East Grinstead should have surely been level after a Robin Deen free-kick found Wasps captain Stephen Smith who somehow shot over from only a couple of yards out. However the Hawks held on to claim another crucial three points.
