Shaun Saunders: Back where he belongs
Whitehawk FC are delighted to confirm the return of Shaun Saunders as First Team Manager. Shaun will be joined by Adam Simpson, and both will take charge of Saturday’s home game against Folkestone Invicta.
Shaun Saunders’ Return
As one of the most successful managers in the club’s history, it was with extreme regret that Shaun requested to be released from his contract in May this year in order to take a break from football for personal reasons. Although the task ahead for the club at that stage in the season was going to be extremely challenging, the club respected his decision and agreed to his request.
Following the departure of the new manager, Ross McNeilly, earlier this season, Shaun was a strong contender to return. However, he was unable to step back into the role right away, and the club needed immediate stability. Thankfully, assistant manager Dave Altendorff stepped up to the difficult task, and we deeply appreciate his efforts during this challenging period.
Now Shaun is back where he belongs, ready to fulfil his commitment and get the Hawks back on track.
A Message from Dave Altendorff
Before looking ahead, we want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank Dave Altendorff, who has stepped down as manager. In his own words:
“After much thought, I’ve decided to step down as manager of Whitehawk FC. I want to thank the board for giving me the chance to lead the club in difficult circumstances – it’s been a fantastic experience that I will learn from immensely. And thank you to the fans for your support during this difficult period!
To the players, you’ve been brilliant. Your effort, passion, and positivity have made it a privilege to work with you. And to the staff; you’re the unsung heroes. The hours you put in behind the scenes and the quality of your work is exceptional, and I’m so grateful for everything you’ve done.
It is, of course, a real shame that it hasn’t worked out the way we would have liked, but I have made this decision in the best interests of the club and I believe that a new manager with fresh ideas is the best course of action at this stage.
It’s been a great journey, and I’ll always be rooting for the Hawks!”
The club extends its deepest gratitude to Dave for stepping up when the team needed him most and for his tireless efforts in a challenging role. We wish him all the best in the future.
A Message from Shaun Saunders
Shaun expressed his excitement about returning to the Enclosed Ground:
“I’m delighted to be back at the club. Working together with Adam Simpson, we aim to get the club back on track as soon as possible.
We would ask our supporters to be patient and get behind the team. It’s been a tough start to the season, but rest assured we will be giving everything to get the club higher up the league.
We will be working hard with the current squad and endeavour to get them the help they need. The hard work has already started, and we aim to add to the group with some experience. We ask everyone to pull together as a collective to get us out of the situation we find ourselves in.
Saturday, we call on everyone to get behind us as we start the difficult task ahead.”
Looking Ahead
The club is excited to see Shaun and Adam lead the team in what promises to be a crucial period for the Hawks. We encourage fans to join us on Saturday as we welcome Folkestone Invicta to the Enclosed Ground and begin this new chapter.
Thank you for your continued support, and as always: #COYH 🦅
