Recap | VCD Athletic 0-2 Whitehawk
The Hawks made it five matches unbeaten in the league with a smooth 2-0 victory over struggling VCD Athletic at Oakwood.
With the grey skies sticking overhead Shaun Saunders named an unchanged side from the one that cruised to a 4-0 victory over Lancing in midweek, with Tommy Brewer and Toby Reeder returning to the bench.
Early exchanges tight, disruptive; it needed a goal dearly and Luke Robinson delivered with a fine half-volley just outside the box, keeping his balance and securing his sixth Whitehawk goal in the process.
From then on the onslaught ensued: chances for Robinson and Will Miles from resulting attacks were denied by Jordan Gillmore, with Charlie Lambert coming close, too, with a header from a matter of yards out.
With the half at an end, the visitors began the restart in similar zest with aa fabulous strike from Alfie Rogers: 20-yards out and the ball dropping from a serious height, one swing of the boot saw the ball soar into the roof of the net to astounded faces.
And as the hosts found no way through a resolute and in-sync back-line, Saunders’ side strengthened their grip on the playoffs with Tuesday’s Velocity Cup semi-final at Potters Bar Town on the horizon.
