Carshalton Athletic 2-0 Whitehawk
Bostik Premier League – Game 15
Whitehawk endured a difficult night at Carshalton Athletic, with two early goals proving to be the difference in difficult conditions.
Omar Koroma and Kalvin Morath-Gibbs strikes in the first 13 minutes were decisive – with the hosts winning 2-0 at Colston Avenue.
The defeat leaves Jude MacDonald’s side outside of the bottom three on goal difference ahead of a trip to Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday.
The Hawks were forced into one change with Anesu Sisimayi replacing the injured Lucas Rodrigues, and fell behind just six minutes in.
Bobby Price won the ball in midfield and found Tommy Bradford, who drove forward with the ball before playing it through to Koroma and after turning past his marker, slotted the ball beyond Melvin Minter.
The Hawks then enjoyed a decent spell of possession, with neat play from Nat Pinney, Connor Tighe and Luke Emberson being halted by Carshalton keeper Patrick Ohman, but only for the hosts to double their lead minutes later.
Daniel Poppoe’s long ball forward was flicked on by Ricky Korboa into the path of Morath-Gibbs, and the striker’s first-time volley from outside the area gave Minter little chance.
Tighe then forced Ohman into a smart save as the Hawks looked to get back into the game, before Tighe and Henry Muggeridge combined to tee up Pinney inside the area, but again Ohman was equal to the shot.
The second half produced little in terms of goalmouth action as the conditions deteriorated. Korboa nearly finished a good move for the hosts on the hour and should’ve done better when just eight yards out.
Korboa then almost provided a third when his cross was met by Koroma, but his towering header came back off the bar.
Matt Drage came close to a consolation late on for the Hawks, but it wasn’t to be on a tough night for the Hawks.
