Kingstonian 1-3 Whitehawk
Bostik Premier League: Game 25
Three goals in a pulsating eleven minutes of football earn the Hawks a hard fought win against promotion chasing Kingstonian at King George’s Field.
After a cagey start, the K’s took the lead with their first chance of the half, when top scorer, Elliott Buchanan turned home a close range effort following a scuffed shot from Louie Theophanous. The Hawks could consider themselves unlikely to fall behind, but were fortunately to not fall two behind when Buchanan headed wide from a Sean Clohessy cross.
Whitehawk seized the initiative when Lucas Rodrigues ran at Inman, the K’s centre back had just been down for treatment and was clearly not moving freely, Lucas twisted one way, then the other leaving Inman helpless as he glided past before firing a wicked effort past Rob Tolfrey to level the scores.
Inman was subsequently replaced by Tyler Brown, the K’s defence were immediately caught napping when Lewis Unwin lofted the ball into the path of Henry Muggeridge who calmly looped the ball over Tolfrey to send the travelling fans into bedlam.
The Hawks, inspired by the returning John Paul Kissock, continued to dominate the first half and the pressure paid off when former Kingstonian man Aaron Goode fired a low shot from the edge of the box, Sinn’Kaye Christie stuck out a boot and turned the shot into the top corner, leaving Tolfrey rooted on the spot.
The only negative for Whitehawk was the removal of Kissock just before half time after picking up an injury in the build up to the goal, Ebuzoeme replaced him to make his Hawks debut.
Kingstonian came out firing for the second half, with Theophanous connected sweetly from a Buchanan cross, but his shot endangered the cars in the car park more than it did Melvin Minter’s goal. The K’s continued to dominate the second half, with Minter producing some fine stops to deny Theophanous (twice) and substitute Dan Darbyshire.
Michael Chard brought the game to a conclusion, to spark joyous scenes with Hawks players and fans alike embracing to celebrate three vital points.
The Hawks can look positively to February where we face Wingate & Finchley, Harlow Town and Burgess Hill, who the Hawks have closed to within 4 points of, with all 3 sides losing to Lewes, Dorking and Hornchurch respectively.
