Whitehawk 2-2 Carshalton Athletic

Whitehawk fought back from 2-0 down to score a dramatic 96th minute equaliser at home against Carshalton Athletic.

The Hawks started the game in the worst possible way with their defence failing to clear their lines, allowing Jacob Mendy to curl a shot into the far post for a 1-0 lead after just three minutes. The first half remained increasingly scrappy with both sides struggling to keep possession, though Whitehawk grew into the game and did start to create chances, the best of which fell to Aaron Goode after some brilliant footwork by John-Paul Kissock saw him weave around the Robins’ defence to set him up, though the shot went narrowly over the bar. Carshalton though could have doubled their lead on the stroke of half time through Michael Dixon, though a combination of a block from Sinn’Kaye Christie and a save from Melvin Minter kept it a 1 goal gap at the half.

Carshalton struck early in the second half to double their lead after Paris Hamilton-Downes hit a cross into the box which Hawks keeper Melvin Minter failed to claim after coming off his line, allowing Tommy Bradford to score his 99th career goal for the visitors. The Hawks came back into the game after 69 minutes with 63rd substitute Nathaniel Pinney slotting home against his former club after some great build up play by captain Muggeridge. The goal seemed to spur the Hawks on as they dominated Carshalton through the latter stages of the game, creating plenty of chances to win and deep inside stoppage time they grabbed a deserved equaliser after a Melvin Minter free-kick into the box fell to Yannis Amboisine, who teed up Henry Muggeridge who’s effort was bundled home by Sinn’Kaye Christie and earn what could be a huge point for the home side.
