Match Preview | Haringey Borough (H)

Well, that was wild. The Enclosed Ground was a bubbling cauldron come 5pm on Saturday afternoon as a magnificent Charlie Walker hat-trick inside 21 minutes sealed a memorable 3-2 comeback win in front of a rambunctious Din End.

Three crucial points it was for Shaun Saunders’ side as they pushed further away from the drop zone, with tonight’s Velocity Cup Quarter Final next up on the agenda.

Haringey Borough the visitors for this occasion, a place in the Semi Final is firmly up for grabs with Ashford United and Chatham Town already sealing their fate. Now the spotlight is on the Hawks and Haringey, Hashtag and Badshot Lea to see who the final four will be.

Team News

Lloyd Dawes is getting closer to making a return from his injury earlier in the season, whilst Stefan Wright continues to be treated after sustaining an injury a few weeks ago.

Haringey have been boosted by the return of midfielder Matthew Young, but they may choose to rotate things a touch as their primary focus rests on divisional survival.

The Opposition

We meet again. There was plenty of quality on display in the previous two meetings with Tom Loizou’s side, and he’ll have felt hard done by to only have one point to show from those two matches.

In the league it’s desperate times for the North London outfit as they stand seven points adrift of salvation with games hastily running out. Victory over the Hawks 10 days ago would have been vital, yet those back-to-back losses since have fully knocked their momentum.

But this is the Velocity Cup, and magic can surely exist as they go in hope of one final piece of silverware that would bring a few smiles to Coles Park.

One to Watch | Matthew Young

The 21 year-old returned to the side in their loss at Horsham a week ago after a brief spell on the sidelines, and how they had missed the midfielder who has found the net on an impressive 12 occasions this season.

A product of Leyton Orient’s academy, Young featured 15 times in League Two for the East London club, making one assist. He has since featured for Wealdstone and Hemel Hempstead, and was officially signed by Haringey last summer.

Previous Meetings

The clubs last locked horns just 10 days ago in the league. It was all going Borough’s way up until a
trademark Charlie Lambert strike looped in late on to earn a share of the spoils. 1-1 it finished, which was the scoreline in the reverse fixture earlier in the season up until another late Lambert effort sealed all three points.

Prior to that, the 2018/19 campaign again saw the sides meet, with Haringey earning a 3-0 and 3-1 victory at home and away respectively.
