Read Hawks boss Steve King’s thoughts as the Hawks held league leaders Havant & Waterlooville on Monday.
“Having time to reflect on Monday’s game against Havant, I think it was a very good game full of commitment and endeavor from both sides.
“I felt Havant were the better side for the first 20 minutes and dominated that period, however during this time Dan (Wilks, goalkeeper) was only required to make one save, which was outstanding.
“I felt we then grew into the game, and we changed the system from 4-2-3-1 to 4-4-2 after 25 minutes which enabled us to get a foot hold in the game, ending the first half all square.
“In the second half we came out determined to win the game and after an evenly played ten/fifteen minute,s I felt we started to create a number of chances. Had we taken any of these chances, including an opportunity in the 93rd minute, nobody would have begrudged us a win that our second half dominance deserved.
“After the game I was approached by a number of fans who all commented on the commitment and performance of the team on the day and since the New Year.
“One statistic to come out of our meeting with Havant is that we are the only 2 teams to have only lost 2 games since Boxing Day, which is quite remarkable fact considering where we are in league in relation to them, but it shows what a great group of players we have here with us.”
