Corinthian-Casuals 2-0 Whitehawk
Bostik Premier League – Game 10
The Hawks were made to pay for a combination of missed chances and poor defending as they lost to struggling Corinthian-Casuals.
Jude Macdonald’s side hit the frame of the goal on three occasions in a goalless first half, but conceded two goals in the second half to condemn them to a fourth defeat of the season.
Mu Mann created the first opportunity of the game for the hosts, beating Harry Shooman before firing just wide with Melvin Minter beaten after just three minutes, before the Hawks went even closer. Anesu Sisimayi played the ball inside to Jason Williams, who let fly from 25 yards but his low drive hit the foot of the post.
Minter made a solid save to deny Warren Mfula on the half hour after the striker ran onto a through ball to keep the hosts at bay, but it was the Hawks who continued to create the better opportunities.
Henry Muggeridge’s deep corner found Matt Drage, whose header across goal eventually dropped to Williams but from point blank range he fired against the woodwork.
The Hawks started on the front foot in the second half, with Drage hitting the bar with a cross-come-shot that had everyone beaten, but it was the hosts who broke the deadlock ten minutes into the second period.
Gabriel Odunaike played a neat ball through to Mfula, who lost his marker to give himself time and space before slotting low past Minter when one on one with the Hawks keeper.
Macdonald’s side looked for a response, with Williams blazing well over after good work from Sisimayi.
However, for all the Hawks hard work – it has been a common theme that their defending has let them down at times – and that was the case again as the hosts doubled their lead. Drage’s wayward pass inside his own area fell straight to the feet of Odunaike, who simply couldn’t miss.
Comins was then fortunate to see Kwai Marsh-Brown’s effort drop wide of the post after spilling the substitute’s effort, but it wasn’t to be the Hawks’ night
