Hawks Go Down With Pride

Whitehawk 4-0 Corinthian-Casuals

Whitehawk’s relegation from the Bostik Premier League was confirmed on Saturday, despite a dominant 4-0 win over Corinthian-Casuals.

The Hawks went into the game knowing that nothing less than a win, combined with Wingate & Finchley not winning, would make them safe and it was clear the players knew this as they went at the Casuals from the very start, with Sinn’Kaye Christie hitting the post after 12 minutes and Rhyle Ovenden shooting over. News of Wingate leading against Burgess Hill filtered through, but captain Henry Muggeridge eased Hawks’ fans fears after 33 minutes tapping in a cross from Aaron Goode. Muggeridge doubled the lead 2 minutes later after connecting to a great cross by the lively Lucas Rodrigues.

During the second half, news of Burgess Hill coming back from 2-0 down sparked a sea of noise at The TerraPura Ground, though the joy was short lived as Wingate scored twice in short succession to effectively end any chance of survival. The Hawks were determined to bow out with pride however, with Nathaniel Pinney scoring as the game ticked over to the 90th minute. Captain Henry Muggeridge then slotted home a penalty 2 with the last kick to ensure a 4-0 win, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a second successive relegation, as the Hawks drop to the Bostik South East.
