Bath City 0-3 Whitehawk

Tuesday 19th April 2016

National League South

Whitehawk gave their chances of qualifying for the National League South playoffs a huge boost on Tuesday evening after a dominant victory over a struggling Bath City.

The Hawks’ dominated from the start and gave their chances of taking home 3 points after a Danny Mills free-kick found Alex Osborn, who’s cheeky chip over Bath ‘keeper Steve Phillips in the 7th minute gave Whitehawk an early 1 goal lead. Bath rarely threatened, but were gifted a couple of free-kicks by the match officials, but they could not take these chances and when McCootie did score in the 37th minute, it was ruled out for offside. A bizarre incident occurred on the stroke of half-time as a cross/shot by McCootie appeared to be going straight in to the goal, however Dave Pratt took a slight touch on the ball before it crossed the line and with him being in a prior offside position, Bath had a Second goal ruled out.

The Second Half began much like the first with Whitehawk grabbing an early goal as a pin-point corner hit into the box by Nick Arnold found Jordan Rose, who barely had to move to secure a 2-0 lead. Nick Arnold was involved a short time later for The Hawks’ 3rd goal 6 minutes later as he hit a brilliant ball up the field to find Mike West, who chipped the ball over Phillips to put The Hawks 3-0 up.

Whitehawk had a couple of late chances to increase their lead, however a low cross in the Bath penalty area by Liam Graham was unable to be followed up by any player and substitute Sam Gargan was only able to strike the post with his late attempt. The Hawks move up to 8th following this win, closing the gap over Hemel Hempstead in 5th place to just 4 points, with a game in hand over the Hertfordshire side and with the Hawks and The Tudors due to meet in the final game of the season, it looks increasingly like it could go right to the wire for the final spot, with Dartford and Maidenhead United also in the chasing pack.
