Whitehawk 1-1 Dorking Wanderers

Whitehawk earned a deserved hard-fought point at The TerraPura Ground against a very physical Dorking Wanderers side, drawing 1-1.

The visitors could have taken the lead after just 50 seconds after some poor defending by the Hawks allowed Reece Hall into the box, with his attempt clattering the post and going wide. Dorking continued to try and make a breakthrough but were unable to break down a brave defensive performance by the home side. Dorking grew more frustrated, with Hawks winger Lucas Rodrigues being the target of some questionable challenges throughout. The Hawks themselves could have had a penalty after Dorking keeper Slavomir Huk completely wiped out Nathaniel Pinney just inside the penalty area, yet nothing was given. Rodrigues made them pay after 65 minutes however after hitting a great cross into the box to find Pinney, who smashed home.

The lead only lasted for 90 seconds however as Dorking were allowed too much time and space in the final third and it allowed Niall McManus in to score, though he was clearly in an offside position, yet no flag was raised and the goal was allowed to stand. Wanderers had plenty of chances to take the lead thereafter, but Hawks keeper Melvin Minter made a string of brilliant saves to deny Jason Prior. The Hawks defending continued to absorb the string of attacks that the visitors were creating, with a defensive back 4 of Walsh, Goode, Christie and Ambrosine playing incredibly well throughout. Whitehawk then had a chance to grab a winner of their own, with Lucas Rodrigues catching the keeper off his line, but the attempt narrowly went over the bar to give both sides a hard-earned point.
