Isthmian League

Fred Moore

It is with great sadness that the club announces the death of club legend Fred Moore. Fred was a Hawks fan from early in his life, as well as our match secretary for 33 years. In his later time at the club Fred was also youth team secretary and become something of an idol to the young players, with his passionate commitment to the team. Fred was devoted to his wife Sylvia, who sadly passed away recently. Both were past editors of the Hawks match day programme.

First team manager Ross Standen said: “I’ve never met anyone quite like Fred. He’s been a big factor at the club for a long long time. I can remember him back when I was playing in the U10s.”

Paying tribute to Fred, Chairman Andy Schofield said: “Fred was a one-off. A unique character, who loved the Hawks and expected the same level of devotion from those around him. Officials of other clubs always asked after him, which is a mark of the affection he was held in across the world of non-league football.”

Everyone at Whitehawk sends their sympathies and best wishes to all Fred’s family and friends.

Fred Moore was born 25 November 1939. He was Hawks match secretary from 1986 to 2019 and match day programme editor from 2003 to 2010. For his services to Sussex football be was appointed a Vice-President of the Southern Combination Football League.

    So sad

Fred and I ,like many others , go back many years. He was always ready with a comment on my refereeing , but was NEVER bad mouthing . He accepted others point of view and during the 24 years I had on the County league he was always a pleasure to be around and loved his football and particularly Whitehawk . I for one will miss him on the circuit .
Rest in Peace Fred you are a legend .
