Four members of the Whitehawk FC Under 18 squad have been handed First Team contracts with the club.

Defenders Lewis Broughton, Luke Emberson and Robbie Keith as well as Midfielder Billy Barker have been given contracts after performing well in our Under 18 side which is currently top of the Ryman South Youth League with a 100% record.

Under 18 Manager Jude Macdonald said “It’s great news having the four of them sign for the First Team and it’s going in the right direction in terms of what we are looking to achieve at this club. Nigel (Acting-Chairman) has watched Billy and Luke since they were U16’s playing up an age group for us and them signing is a real positive progression. Luke was training with the front side last season along with Lucas Rodrigues and Sergio Torres was very complimentary of him then, so we hope that there will be more deals to follow”.

“Robbie and Lewis have just started with us this season, but have been huge assets to the team. Robbie is a real leader, which is rare in youth football these days. Lewis has fantastic ability and is somebody who has been consistently excellent so far this year”.

Acting Hawks Chairman Nigel Thornton said “We are pleased to sign on these players and are very much keeping an eye on their development within our incredibly talented Under 18 side. Further players are also being looked at for chances with the First Team. We also wanted to sign a further member of the Under 18 team to a First Team contract, but unfortunately they are not currently old enough for this to happen yet, but we will continue to watch them, as well as other members of the team”.

Macdonald added, “We have other boys who will be training with the first team as the season progresses, something which we really want to encourage. You only have to look at the Worthing FC model to understand how successful youth progression can be, it’s a real goal for us to get to that level”.
