Andy Watkins scored a brace as Bath City condemned 10-man Whitehawk to their first defeat in five games at the Enclosed Ground.
The Hawks’ day didn’t get off to the best of starts with keeper Ross Flitney pulling up injured in the warm-up, but replacement Lucas Covolan, fresh from a loan spell at Lewes, did well to save from Nick McCootie from point blank range after good work from George Rigg.
However, after a delay due to an injury to referee Andy Laver, the Romans did take the lead midway through the first half. Watkins found himself in space in the area and headed home unmarked to give Bath the lead.
And the Hawks’ task got a lot harder after the half-hour mark when Ahmed Abdulla, already booked by Laver, was shown a second yellow by Paul Yates to see himself sent off.
And Bath looked to push on their man advantage in the second period, with McCootie firing wide before they doubled their lead with less than twenty minutes to go.
Against the run of play, Watkins was again unmarked and made no mistake from inside the area – giving Covolan no chance.
The Hawks keeper later saved well from a Frankie Artus free-kick before McCootie sprung the offside trap, before nonchalantly lifting the ball over the advancing Covolan but also over the bar.
