Squad Update

The Hawks are delighted to announce that the following players from last years squad have committed to the club for next season: Henry Muggeridge, Adam El-Abd, Henry Blackmore, Frankie Chappell, Lloyd Cotton, Luke Emberson, James Fraser, Omarr Lawson, Rhyle Ovenden, Leon Redwood and Lew Unwin. Last year’s U18 captain Ollie Munt, along with Demas Ramsis and youth prospect Billie Clark will be in the first team squad.

Chairman Andy Schofield said: “It’s great to see the bulk of last year’s squad commit to the club for next season. Ross and the new management team have been working with the players during time off from football and it’s a tribute to the growing team spirit that all these lads were eager to sign up.”

A new face for the Hawks is Charlie Coppola, who joined last season, but wasn’t able to play before the season was curtailed. Charlie is a former fans favourite at Lewes and will be splitting his time between the Hawks and his university studies.

On the subject of Hawks fans favourite Lucas Rodrigues, Andy added: “Lucas has been offered a further year’s contract but has indicated he is listening to offers from other clubs.” Should Lucas sign elsewhere the Hawks will be entitled to a fee or compensation as the Brazilian winger is under 24 years of age.

First team manager Ross Standen said: “We are very pleased to receive the commitment of all these players and are still in discussions with the remainder of the squad. The players have been very well looked after by the club during Covid times, so it is fantastic to see that loyalty being repaid with an early commitment to play for the club again next season.

Ross added: “I know fans will be disappointed to hear the news about Lucas, as are we. Lucas is very highly regarded by the club, me and the management team. We want Lucas to stay but he has decided he wants to listen to offers and play at a higher standard.

The Hawks are in discussions with other targets and there will be updates when we can confirm any more signings.
