Midfielder Sam Chaney joined the Hawks on loan in November 2017, after scoring against Farleigh Rovers in a friendly.

Sam is a product of the Torquay academy, signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2014 and has made over 50 appearances in the National League for The Gulls, playing in the same team as Elliot Benyon.  He has scored one goal for Torquay, in the FA Cup against Woking.

Sam played schoolboy football at Leyton Orient before being spotted by Torquay manager Martin Ling.
