Match Report

Very heavy rain for hours before this game meant it was the first time any of the players would have played on a wet surface for some months.  The trip to Maidenhead’s ground, where Hayes & Yeading are ground sharing while their new ground is built, was made in torrential rain.

It was also (it being Bank Holiday) the second game in three days for both teams – tiring.

Whitehawk, after a tense game with Ebbsfleet two days ago, started sharply and JP Kissock had skimmed a good shot off the H&Y crossbar with only minutes gone.

The home side were under attack for most of the first half and in the 37th minute conceded a penalty for a trip on JP Kissock, which was converted by Sam Deering.  But for all their dominance the Hawks failed to put a significant gap between themselves and their opponents.

The narrow margin made for a tense second half as Hayes got more into the game, but John Sullivan in the Whitehawk goal didn’t have to make any real saves.

Towards the end of the game Frantz Tchonang Ngassa made his debut for Whitehawk.

The win is the 3rd straight one for Whitehawk and also the 3rd clean sheet – this win will take the Hawks upto 6th in the table, probably the highest position ever held by the club.
