Match Report

It was a tough night for The Hawks as they slipped to another league defeat on a freezing night in Hungerford. Paul Reid handed a debut for new signing Frankie Sutherland and first senior start for Lucas Rodrigues.

The game started positively with The Hawks piling early pressure on Hungerford but it was in only in the 4th minute that the referee awarded a somewhat contentious penalty to Hungerford when it was judged that Ross Flitney had brought down Luke Williams in the box, the spot kick when then calmly dispatched by Nat Jarvis.

The Hawks then matched Hungerford for the next hour of play but were unable to capitalise on chances as playoff chasing Hungerford dug deep and defended expertly to frustrate the excellent probing runs of Alex Osborn and Lucas Rodrigues.

The game then took a turn for the worse as Marvin Hamilton turned the ball into his own net to give Hungerford a two-goal cushion. A double substitution of Glen Southam and Kevin Lisbie, along with a change of formation had a big effect on the game as The Hawks heaped the pressure on and conjured a brilliantly worked chance which ended with Danny Mills getting on the score sheet.

The Hawks gave it everything for the next 20 minutes and Lucas Rodrigues was brought down in the box twice only for Ref to wave away both penalty claims, with the hawks stretched Hungerford took advantage two minutes before the end of the game as new Crusaders signing Warren Bentley snatched a debut goal to leave the final score 3-1 to the home team but the score line was somewhat unfair on how well The Hawks battled.
