Match Report

Bath City 2-1 Whitehawk

Saturday 3rd September 2016

National League South

The Hawks’ poor start to the season continued on the road on Saturday as they were defeated 2-1 by Bath City.

The First Half, which bizarrely started at 14.56, began at a frantic pace from both sides with good early chances alike from Diallo and Monthe for the hosts and from West and Llenga for The Hawks. Weather conditions began to deteriorate about 20 minutes into the game and it coincided with a shift in the game as Bath seized the initiative a couple of minutes later with Shaquille Hunter latching onto a cross by Andy Watkins to put the Home side into a 1-0 lead. 10 minutes later, The Romans should have been 2-0 up after some great build up play by Naby Diallo set up Nick McCootie who somehow shot wide of the far post instead of scoring.

The Hawks immediately started the Second Half weaker than the First with key attacking player Mike West forced off with an injury, however they certainly didn’t show it as just 8 minutes after the restart the game was level after Ahmed Abdulla struck a nice Free Kick into the penalty area to find Almpi Llenga who rose highest to head home. The equaliser seemed to rejuvenate The Hawks but they were unable to capitalise on a host of chances, the best of which fell to Wilfried Tagbo who fired wide after some good build up play by Danny Mills.

The Hawks were punished for not being clinical enough in the 88th minute after Adri Munoz make a good save to initially deny Bath a 2nd, but he was unable to do anything to prevent a powerful strike by Romans defender Manny Monthe finding the top of the net to seal a narrow win for Bath City and condemn The Hawks to their 4th defeat of the season ahead of the start of a busy 2 week spell for The Hawks with 3 league game and an FA Cup tie in that period.
