Whitehawk 2-0 Oxford City
Tuesday 12th April 2016
National League South
Whitehawk kept their hopes of a play-off place alive on a chilly Tuesday evening at The Enclosed Ground after a 2-0 win over Oxford City.
The game was abandoned earlier in the year at Halftime due to floodlight failure with The Hawks winning 2-1 and they looked to take an early lead over the visitors, however Nick Arnold’s 3rd minute attempt was hit narrowly over the bar. Oxford had a significant blow to their chances in the 9th minute as Captain Darren Pond was forced off with an injury, taking their tally of injured First Team players to 9. Despite this, the game remained even with not much between the sides with Walker and Ross making good saves to deny Martin and Awadh respectively.
With Halftime approaching, The Hawks took the lead as Nick Arnold hit a great free-kick into the box to find Jordan Rose, who accurately headed in to put Whitehawk 1-0 up at the half.
The Second Half was a subdued affair and Oxford took another blow in the 63rd minute with Paul Stonehouse the latest player forced off with an injury, with Adrian Santiago also replaced shortly afterwards after picking up a knock in the First Half. The Hawks sealed their win in the 78th minute with Arnold and Rose again combining; Arnold with the great delivery from a corner and Rose with another well executed header to seal a 2-0 win for Whitehawk which sees them move up 1 place to 11th and reduce the gap on the play-off places to 7 points, with 2 games in hand over most of the chasing pack.
