Truro City 1-1 Whitehawk

National League South
Whitehawk moved into the National League South playoff positions on Tuesday evening following a 1-1 draw away to Truro City, who sealed their own playoff position that evening.
The Hawks looked to make an early impact on a chilly evening in Cornwall, but an effort by Alex Osborn was deflected behind for a corner which eventually came to nothing. Truro came in to the game more as the half went on and looked dangerous when moving forward, but weren’t able to make their dominance count.
However, City received a boost in the 36th minute following the dismissal of Hawks defender Jordan Rose for a receiving 2 yellow cards in the space of 2 minutes and they nearly quickly capitalised on this from a corner, but Cody Cooke could only head over the bar, sending both sides into the dressing room at half time level.
Truro took the lead 13 minutes into the second half after Ryan Brett hit a brilliant ball into the penalty area, finding Matty Jay who beat the offside trap to tap past a helpless Craig Ross to put City into a 1-0 lead. Seven minutes later it could have easily been 2-0 to Truro if it wasn’t for Craig Ross making a brilliant stop at point blank range to deny substitute Isaac Vassell.
From this point, Whitehawk started to show more of the courage and togetherness which the team has shown under Pablo Asensio and began to push forward for an equaliser with Sam Rents, Chris M’Boungou and Danny Mills all going close to scoring. Truro had another great chance to end the game, but Aaron Dawson could only force Craig Ross into another great save.
However, it was to be The Hawks to have the final impact in the game as substitute Jake Robinson struck a cross into the box to find Danny Mills who scored at close range to grab a well-deserved point for Whitehawk. They could have got a winner in the 93rd minute though as Jake Robinson’s 30-yard effort went narrowly wide of the near post.
The result is enough to put The Hawks into the playoff positions on goal difference and a draw might be enough to seal a top 5 finish for Whitehawk against their main competitors for the final position, Hemel Hempstead. Hosts Truro City also sealed their own playoff position and 1 more point from their final 2 games will seal a 4th place finish. The team that finishes in 4th place will face Maidstone United and the team that finishes 5th will take on long time league leaders Ebbsfleet United.
