Match Report

Whitehawk have now won just once in their last five league matches after a disappointing defeat at home to mid-table Concord Rangers.

In what was a pretty uneventful affair at the Enclosed Ground, Adam Bailey-Dennis had a chance within the first ninety seconds to put Rangers ahead, but couldn’t hit the target when unmarked at a corner.

Jake Robinson then should have done better when he looked to be through on goal, but only for Ben McNamara to save from close range.

Danny Mills then saw a header brilliantly turned over the top by the keeper, before Craig Ross kept the score goalless at the break when saving well from Lewis Taaffe.

McNamara was then forced to turn a Craig Braham-Barrett, who was signed by the Hawks on loan until January, cross-come-shot over the top, before Concord went in front after 54 minutes.

Tom Stephen whipped in a low ball into the area following a corner being cleared, and Bailey-Dennis was unmarked inside the area and finished well.

The Hawks should have been level after the hour, but Arnaud Mendy couldn’t get the right contact on Robinson’s knock-down as McNamara saved from close range.

And the Hawks were made to pay for their missed chances when substitute Jordan Cox somehow stayed on-side to run on to a long ball, and took the ball around Ross to finish.

However, there was controversy late on when Danny Mills’ goal-bound header was handled on the line by Bailey-Dennis, but neither referee nor linesman failed to award anything despite it looking as clear as day to deny Whitehawk a chance to get back into the match.
