Whitehawk FC 2 – 1 Weston-Super-Mare FC
By Anthony Scott
A late goal from substitute Sam Gargan gave 10-man Whitehawk all three points against Weston-super-Mare at East Brighton Park.
Tom Cadmore’s first half header deservedly put Steve King’s men ahead at the break, before the visitors drew level through Oliver Watkins five minutes into the second period.
Pa Saikou Kujabi then harshly saw red for a professional foul on Watkins, before Gargan’s late header kept Whitehawk’s ambitions of promotion firmly on track.
Craig Ross produced two great saves early on in the Hawks goal, before the lively Jake Robinson fired off target on two occasions as the hosts took a grip of the game, and were duly rewarded before the break.
Scott Neilson’s corner from the right picked out Cadmore, who rose well and his bullet header gave Luke Purnell no chance.
However, Weston equalized just five minutes into the second half as Dayle Grubb played the ball across to substitute Watkins, and from inside twelve yards he made no mistake.
The hosts had the better of the chances in the second period, before Kujabi was sent off despite appearing to get a touch to the long ball through before Watkins who would have been through on goal.
Despite that, it was Whitehawk who went on to win all three points after substitute Gargan met Sam Deering’s corner with a firm header at the near post.
