Two goals in three first half minutes saw Chelmsford City inflict back-to-back defeats on struggling Whitehawk at The TerraPura Ground.
Matt Johnson’s wonder strike and Chris Dickson got the goals for Rod Stringer’s side as they moved back into the play-off places with a 2-0 win.
The Clarets started on the front foot with Craig Braham-Barrett whipping the ball in from the left and picking out Dickson at the far post but Seny Dieng produced a great save to turn the ball over the bar.
The Hawks then created an opening with Ky Marsh-Brown setting up Michael Cain on the edge of the area but his low drive was deflected narrowly wide of the post.
That was the best the hosts had as they went behind 12 minutes in. They failed to clear a throw in and the ball dropped to Johnson 25 yards out and he hit the ball on the half-volley which found the top corner, giving Dieng no chance.
And the Clarets doubled their lead just three minutes later when Lee Barnard played a neat ball through to Dickson, who beat the offside trap and one on one with Dieng finished emphatically.
The second half produced little in terms of action, with the Hawks enjoying a large amount of possession.
The only flashpoint came late on, when Dieng went up for a corner and almost scored from Nassim L’Ghoul’s delivery, but it wasn’t to be for the Hawks.
