Whitehawk claimed only their second competitive win of the season against fellow National League South side Chippenham Town in the FA Trophy.
Chippenham went close early on with Andy Sandell heading just over the bar after Michael Jones headed a free-kick back into the area, before Sam Chaney ran on to a great ball through from Michael Cain, but dragged wide from just inside the area.
The Hawks then took a deserved lead six minutes before the break. Substitute Ermal Hajdari whipped in a great ball to David Ijaha, who saw his firm header well saved by Jared Thompson, but Pape Gueye was first to the loose ball to slam home from six yards.
And the lead was doubled just two minutes into the second half. Sam Chaney ran at the visitors defence before seeing his low shot across goal parried, and Michael Cain was on hand to pass the ball past Alex Ferguson on the line from twelve yards.
The Bluebirds then went all out in search of a way back into the tie, with Seny Dieng saving from James Guthrie before the Hawks nearly extended their lead. Chaney’s great ball across picked out sub Connor Tighe, but at full stretch he fired just off target.
However, the visitors then halved the deficit with 15 minutes to go. The hosts got the ball away only as far as David Pratt, who hit a fierce first-time strike into the bottom corner from 22 yards out.
The Bluebirds then went close to drawing level when Pratt whipped in a free-kick which was helped on by Alex Ferguson only for the ball to come back off the bar, but the Hawks’ defence held firm to see out a great win.
