Match Report

Whitehawk 1-3 Haringey Borough
Bostik Premier League: Game 7

It was a disappointing afternoon for the Hawks as they lost 3-1 at home against Haringey Borough.

The Hawks started the game the brightest, pushing forward with real purpose and they were awarded a penalty after 8 minutes as Lucas Rodrigues was felled in the box by Mark Kirby. The initial kick by James Fraser was saved by Haringey keeper Valery Pajetat, but the rebound was headed in by the striker. The visitors pushed for a goal back and Joseph Staunton had a shot deflected behind for a corner, which ultimately came to nothing.

Fraser could have grabbed another goal after 16 minutes, but his ambitious attempt went wide of the near post. Shots on goal were being traded by both teams with Fraser and Staunton continuing to have most of the efforts. With 28 minutes gone, Melvin Minter kept the Hawks ahead with a fantastic double save to deny Joel Nouble and Chinedu McKenzie. Just 5 minutes from the break, Borough were awarded a penalty of their own, some thought rather fortuitously, with Stone going down under the challenge of keeper Minter. Nouble comfortably dispatched the kick. Just as it seemed the scores would be level at the break, a third penalty was awarded. This time there was no arguing with Michael O’Donoghue being taken down by Aaron Goode and Nouble slotted home again for a 2-1 lead.

The second half started as a much quieter affair with barely any action of note taking place in the opening 15 minutes. The game appeared to be over after 66 minutes with Nouble sealing his hat-trick after a solo run. The referee could have levelled up the penalty count after 75 minutes, but this time chose not to point to the spot, despite claims for handball by a Haringey defender just inside the box. With effectively their last chance of the game, Hawks defender Harry Shooman, pushed further forward and a hit great effort from 35 yards out, which produced a flying save from Pajetat. Haringey cleared the resultant corner to seal a second away win of the season.
