Whitehawk 1-3 Oxford City
Saturday 16th September 2017
FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round
Steve King’s return to Whitehawk couldn’t inspire a change of fortune as they bowed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle to fellow National League South side Oxford City.
There were signs of improvement, however, for the Hawks and on another day they might have forced a replay if not progressed themselves.
Four new faces came into the Hawks starting line-up as they bid to stop the rot, and things got off to a perfect start when one of the debutants – Enoch Andoh picked out to top corner just before the half hour mark.
However, the lead lasted all of three minutes when Reece Fleet’s effort was deflected past Simon Jorgensen.
Zac McEachran then put City ahead before the break, before the midfielder sealed Oxford’s place in the Third Qualifying Round with his second and City’s third goal early in the second half.
