We can today confirm that Striker Danny Mills will be leaving the club, ending his incredibly eventful 5 year spell at The Enclosed Ground.

Mills joined The Hawks shortly after our promotion to the Ryman Premier League in November 2012, joining from Carshalton Athletic. He made his first appearance in a Hawks shirt against Kingstonian on 6th November, in a game which was abandoned due to floodlight failure and his first goal came at home against Leiston 11 days later. In his first season at the club, and in our first season in the Ryman Premier League, we were promoted as champions to the ConferenceĀ South.

In our third ever game in the Conference South, Danny scored our first ever goal in the league, before helping himself to 4 additional goals in a 6-2 win away at Dorchester Town. He ended up finishing the season as our top goalscorer with 21 goals, a feat he would go on to achieve in the following 3 seasons, as The Hawks stayed up on the final day of the season. The following season he scored 18 goals as we qualified for the Playoffs, losing narrowly to Boreham Wood in the Final. In that season, Millsy also scored our opening goal in a 5-0 win over Lewes in the Sussex Senior Cup Final at the Amex Stadium.

In the 15/16 season, Mills scored 8 goals in our Emirates FA Cup campaign which saw us go all the way to a televised Replay at Home against Dagenham and Redbridge, a game in which he scored the opening goal. Following a downturn in form, we started to hover above the relegation zone, but Danny remained a crucial part in the team which saw us surge up the table to qualify for the playoffs. He was recognised for being a key member of the team by being voted into the National League South Team of the Season. His final season was an eventful season with us hovering above and around the relegation zone for much of the season, coinciding with changes of manager owing to various reasons. Despite the struggles, Mills still scored 16 times and earning a spot in the Team of the Season for a 2nd season in a row. On March 25th, he scored his 100th goal for The Hawks in a 4-2 defeat away at Truro City. His final goal came in a 3-2 win away at Gosport Borough on the final day of the 16/17 season. His final goal total was 102 goals, scored in just over 200 appearances.

Everyone at the club wishes to thank Danny from the bottom of their hearts for all his effort, dedication and commitment during his incredible 5 year spell at the club and we wish him the best of luck for his future endeavours.

Danny has also asked us to publish the following message –

“It is with a heavy heart that I can confirm I will be leaving the club following the end of the season. I feel that now is the right time for me to move on and further my career elsewhere. It has been an amazing 5 years at the club, through the many highs and the lows it’s been an honour to wear the shirt. I would like to give a special mention to the owners Ned, Chris and John for their support over the years and giving me the fantastic opportunity to play for the club. I would also like to thank all the staff, past and present, as all of them have played an important role in helping my progression as a player.

Lastly, and most certainly not least, to the amazing fans. I would like to give you the biggest thank you. You have been the most incredibly loyal fans throughout my time at the club, even when things have not gone to plan on the pitch, you have shown unconditional support regardless. You are all a testament to yourselves and I thank each and every one of you for your kind words and, most importantly, unbelievable singing. You truly are the 12th man and I will always remember the outstanding loyalty you have shown.

I wish the football club all the success in the world and will still be checking the results every week!”

Millsy
