Match Report

Steve King: “Both of our goals were top draw, of the highest quality, 4pts out of 6 from Eastbourne has been a good return over Christmas.

A report by Howard Griggs of the Argus ……

Danny Mills netted six minutes from time to earn Whitehawk a 2-2 draw at Eastbourne Borough.  An entertaining clash saw Hawks grab a point when Mills turned home a Nick Arnold cross.

Steve King: “That was THE quality move of the game with Sergio Torres’ back heel to Nick Arnold and his cross for Danny Mills – a super goal”

Borough fought back from going a goal down to lead 2-1 but a point apiece was a fair outcome in front of a crowd of 703.

The visitors took the lead on 29 minutes when Jake Robinson was played in behind the home defence to rifle his tenth league goal of the season into the roof of the net.

Steve King: “Jake took his goal so well, he hit it with some much confidence from a very tight angle – it was across the keeper before he saw it.”

Gavin McCallum squandered two great chances for Eastbourne and Kane Haysman lifted a shot on to the top of the bar before Dean Sinclair headed the home side level four minutes before the break from a Frankie Raymond corner.

Twelve minutes into the second half home defender Josh Hare collected a clearance and drove forward before unleashing a shot into the bottom corner from 30 yards.

Hawks drew level six minutes from time with a move of real quality as the moved was moved neatly from right to left and ended with Mills firing home Arnold’s inviting cross from close range.

In the closing stages Whitehawk had a strong penalty appeal turned down while Borough had a stoppage-time goal from substitute Richard Pacquette ruled out for a foul on Tom Cadmore.

Steve King: “Apart from one save with his legs, I don’t think Craig Ross had one save to make all day.  But a draw was probably a fair result today.”
